The Upper School Mathematics Teacher (Upper School teachers are called “tutors” at the Hunter School) serves
as a master instructor and mentor in the study of mathematics within a classical Christian framework. This
teacher instructs students in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus, cultivating precision of thought,
logical reasoning, intellectual virtue, and wonder at the order of God’s creation.
The position requires both academic rigor and spiritual maturity. The teacher must be capable of presenting

Primary Responsibilities
1. Instruction & Curriculum
● Teach upper school mathematics courses including:
o Algebra I & II
o Euclidean and Analytical Geometry
o Trigonometry
o Pre-Calculus
o Calculus (as assigned)
● Present mathematics as an ordered discipline rooted in logical coherence.
● Employ classical pedagogy appropriate to the Logic and Rhetoric stages.
● Emphasize proof-writing, deductive reasoning, and conceptual mastery.
● Integrate historical development of mathematics where appropriate (e.g., Euclid, Descartes, Newton).
● Maintain high academic standards and prepare students for college-level mathematics.
2. Classical Christian Integration
● Articulate how mathematics reflects the order, consistency, and rationality of God’s creation.

the Hunter School) to lead students in the disciplined study of the Latin language and the classical tradition. The
Latin teacher plays a central role in the classical curriculum, equipping students with linguistic precision,
grammatical mastery, and direct access to foundational texts of Western civilization.
The ideal candidate delights in language, loves the classical tradition, and understands Latin as a formative
discipline that strengthens logic, rhetoric, and theological understanding. Instruction should cultivate

Primary Responsibilities
1. Instruction & Curriculum
• Teach upper school Latin courses (Levels I–IV or higher as assigned), which may include:
o Latin I (Foundational Grammar)
o Latin II (Intermediate Grammar & Translation)
o Latin III (Readings in Classical Prose/Poetry)
o Latin IV / Advanced Latin (Vergil, Caesar, Cicero, Ovid, or Church Latin)
• Develop students’ mastery of Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.
• Teach translation with precision and attention to nuance.
• Introduce students to Roman history, literature, and culture.
• Incorporate prose composition where appropriate.
• Prepare students for advanced coursework or standardized Latin exams (e.g., National Latin Exam and
Universal Latin Exam).
2. Classical Integration
• Present Latin as foundational to the Western intellectual tradition.
• Help students understand the historical and theological influence of Rome and the Church.
• Integrate discussion of virtue, civic life, and moral formation as reflected in classical texts.

The Hunter School seeks a full-time Upper School Teacher of English Literature and Humanities (Upper School
teachers are called “tutors” at the Hunter School) to lead students in the disciplined study of great texts, ideas,
and historical movements within a classical Christian framework, also known as the Great Conversation.
The teacher will instruct courses in English literature and may teach integrated humanities courses (history,
philosophy, or cultural studies, depending on staffing). The ideal candidate delights in great books, trains
students in attentive reading and persuasive writing, and cultivates wisdom through engagement with the
Western tradition under the authority of Scripture.

The Head of Lower School serves as the chief academic, administrative, and spiritual leader of the

Lower School leads faculty, students, and families in cultivating a joyful, orderly, and formative
