Apprentice Teacher

The Apprentice Teacher refers to a teacher who is generally new to teaching, including volunteers or recent hires, or someone coming back into teaching after a long break. Candidates working for this level typically have completed undergraduate studies (or the equivalent) and are engaged in local in-service training and professional development. Teachers transferring from other schools may also begin at this level, depending on their prior experience.

After 15 successful hours of study through St. Andrew’s College Teacher Certification Program, the Apprentice Level Teacher Certificate will be rewarded.

Journeyman Teacher

The Journeyman Teacher designation requires at least three years of full-time teaching and proven competence in the classroom. While new hires with significant experience and equivalent training may qualify for this level, most will still need further training to align with ASA’s distinct educational philosophy.

To reach Journeyman level, teachers must complete at least one ASA school visit, and 15 more successful hours of study through St. Andrew’s College Teacher Certification Program.

Master Teacher

The Master Teacher is a seasoned educator with at least ten years of full-time teaching experience who also serves as a mentor and leader. These teachers are expected to demonstrate a deep, poetic understanding of teaching, contribute to school administration, and support ASA initiatives, such as helping launch new schools.

Requirements include three ASA school visits (including one in a different region), 15 more successful hours of study through St. Andrew’s College Teacher Certification Program.

Teacher Certification Training

Teacher Certification training is being done through St. Andrew’s College (SAC). The total training to obtain the “Master Teacher" level certification is 45 credit hours in the quarter system (equivalent to 30 semester hours in the semester system). This is, essentially, one year of full time training–5 three credit classes per term. But in the ASA training model, SAC has broken the classes down to very short classes, most being 1 credit, accomplished in two to three weeks once or twice a week. These can be completed over a much longer period of time, helping busy teachers not be overloaded.

Please come back for more information as this program gets further refined and launches. If you would like to be notified as things develop and when the first classes are being offered, please email admin@standrewsalmanor.org with the subject line: Teacher Certification.
